Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made a serious accusation about Russia’s actions on the global stage. In a recent public address, he claimed that Russia is now actively trying to help Iran continue its nuclear programme.
Russiaβs Support for Iranβs Nuclear Programme
According to Zelenskyy, this is not just a political partnership but a direct effort by Moscow to rescue Iranβs nuclear ambitions.
He said, βRight now, Russia is trying to save Iranβs nuclear programme. Thereβs no other way to interpret its public signals and behind-the-scenes activity.β His statement points toward Russia working both openly and secretly to assist Iran. He also added that Russia steps in whenever one of its allies loses the ability to carry out war.
Zelenskyy called this behaviour βcynicism at its worst.β In simple terms, cynicism here means doing something wrong while pretending itβs right. He stressed that Russia is not just a threat on its own but becomes more dangerous when it joins hands with other countries that share similar aggressive goals.
This warning comes as tensions remain high across several parts of the world, especially with concerns about the spread of nuclear weapons. Iranβs nuclear programme has long been a point of worry for many nations. If Russia is now offering help to Iran, this could make the situation even more dangerous.
Zelenskyy Warns Against the Unity of Aggressive Regimes
Zelenskyy made it clear that such alliances between aggressive governments are a threat to peace everywhere. He said, βThis, time and again, proves that aggressive regimes must not be allowed to unite and become partners.β His statement was a reminder that when countries with violent or harmful goals team up, they can create a bigger and more serious problem for the world.
He gave this warning based on Russiaβs recent actions. Over the years, Russia has been involved in multiple conflicts and has often faced criticism for violating international laws. Iran too has faced heavy sanctions from several countries because of its nuclear activities. When two such countries start working together, it causes concern among many other nations.
Zelenskyyβs remarks suggest that such partnerships are not based on peace or cooperation but on war and power. He believes Russia supports Iran not for peaceful purposes but to strengthen its own influence and protect its war-related interests. For example, if Iran is unable to export weapons or support war-like activities, Russia feels the impact and tries to fix the problem by helping Iran.
This type of behaviour, according to Zelenskyy, is dangerous. It also shows that these governments do not care about international rules or the safety of others. When they unite, they become stronger in ways that can hurt others. This is why he said the world must not allow such partnerships to grow.
Zelenskyy Calls for Sanctions and a Real Ceasefire
Along with giving this warning, President Zelenskyy also talked about actions Ukraine is taking to deal with the situation. He mentioned that he had held an important meeting focused on sanctions. Sanctions are penalties or restrictions placed on countries that break rules or act dangerously.
During the meeting, he asked Ukraineβs foreign minister, intelligence services, and other national teams to come up with new ways to work with international partners. Their goal is to build stronger and more effective sanctions against countries that support war or harmful programmes like Iranβs nuclear development.
Zelenskyy also made a strong statement about ending the war in Ukraine. He said what Ukraine truly needs is βa real ceasefireβ and βa real end to the war.β A ceasefire means stopping all fighting. He pointed out that Ukraine is ready to meet with decision-makers to make this happen.
Interestingly, Zelenskyy even said he is willing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He noted that Putin has stayed in power longer than allowed by Russiaβs own laws. Still, Zelenskyy said he is open to meeting βin any format with those who make decisions and hold the proper authority.β
He also expressed hope for support from the United States, especially under President Donald Trump. He said, βI count heavily on his help. I count heavily on the influence of the United States. That is something that can make a difference.β According to him, powerful countries like the U.S. can play a key role by supporting sanctions, promoting diplomacy, and ensuring security.
Zelenskyy ended his speech by stressing the need for strong global action. He said sanctions, diplomacy, and security efforts are all needed to handle the growing threat from aggressive partnerships like the one between Russia and Iran.
