Baloch Leaders Declare Independence Online

On social media platform X, a major announcement began trending under the phrase “Republic of Balochistan announced.” The trend started after prominent Baloch activist and writer Mir Yar Baloch declared Balochistan’s independence from Pakistan. This declaration came just days after India carried out a military operation called Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation targeted terror camps located in Pakistan and areas of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Mir Yar Baloch used several posts to announce the formation of an independent Democratic Republic of Balochistan. He urged the Indian government to grant Balochistan recognition and permit the establishment of a Baloch embassy in New Delhi. He also requested the United Nations (UN) to send peacekeeping forces to Balochistan and demanded that the Pakistani army withdraw from the area completely.

In his posts, he stated that Baloch fighters had launched attacks on Pakistan’s important gas fields in Dera Bugti, an area known for having over 100 gas wells. Mir Yar said, “We have claimed our independence,” adding that “the collapse of terrorist Pakistan is near.” He appealed to the international community to recognize their new government and called for funds to help print passports and currency for the new state.

Call for Peacekeepers and Pakistani Forces to Leave

Mir Yar Baloch made several appeals to the world. He asked the United Nations to act immediately by sending its peacekeeping forces to Balochistan. According to him, Pakistan’s military was occupying the region unlawfully. He demanded that Pakistan’s army, air force, and navy vacate all land, airspace, and sea areas of Balochistan. He also insisted that all weapons and property belonging to the Pakistani state be left behind.

In addition, he asked all non-Baloch personnel, including members of the Frontier Corps, ISI (Intelligence Services), Police, and the civil administration, to leave Balochistan immediately. He said that the control of the area would soon be handed over to the transitional government of the new Republic of Balochistan. He promised that the cabinet of this new government would include Baloch women, to reflect a commitment to gender representation.

Mir Yar also announced that a state ceremony would soon be held to celebrate the independence of Balochistan. He invited leaders from friendly countries to attend the event and witness the national parade.

In one of his emotional messages, he directly addressed Pakistan by saying, “Hey Na-Pakistan. If you have an army, we Baloch have our army too.” He claimed that Baloch freedom fighters had already started their attacks.

Baloch Liberation Army Attack and Call for Support from India

Social media users started sharing a video that seemed to show an explosion destroying a Pakistani military vehicle. The explosion was attributed to the well-known armed group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). The BLA reports that 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the bombing.

Meanwhile, another Baloch leader, Hyrbyair Marri, who is based in London and leads the Free Balochistan Movement, made a symbolic demand from India. He said that the Indian government should hand over Jinnah’s House in Mumbai to the Baloch people and rename it ‘Balochistan House.’ This house is historically linked to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Marri said it was time for Baloch leaders to use this building to plan their own path to independence.

He strongly criticized the United Nations, claiming it had not acted fairly since 1947. He said the UN has ignored the Balochistan issue for decades while Pakistan continued to exploit the region for its own political benefit. Marri’s message echoed the frustration felt by many Baloch nationalists who believe that their cause has not received enough international attention.

The series of statements, videos, and online posts created a huge wave of reactions on social media. The hashtag #RepublicOfBalochistan began trending as supporters, critics, and observers shared their views and concerns about this dramatic development.

This declaration marks a significant moment in the long-standing conflict between Baloch activists and the Pakistani state. The international community has now been called upon for recognition and action, as the situation in the region continues to unfold.
