In a very daring display of bravery, officers in the Royal Australian Navy saved a life in California. His quick thinking and prompt action made all the difference after a very dramatic accident ensued when traveling to their ship on a roadway in California, United States.
Witnessing the Accident
Lieutenant Jack Stanhope and Sub-Lieutenant Liam Lord headed back to the HMAS Brisbane. The destroyer is now berthed at the US Navy Base in San Diego. While in an Uber, the two officers witnessed a car around them losing control. It swung sharply one way and flipped over more than once. Finally, after it ended up on its side, a small fire started under the destroyed vehicle.
No sooner had they ordered their Uber to stop than officers instructed their driver to do so. The officers alerted emergency services about the incident immediately. As they sized up the situation, their military training took over. The officers knew that they could not waste any more time; they had to act fast if they were going to avoid more danger.
Respond to the Emergency
They find flames licking the car as they draw nearer to the wreck. Lieutenant Stanhope springs into action. He organizes with the civilians who are also present at the scene. Together with them, he tries to rescue the trapped driver from the burning car. For his part, Sub-Lieutenant Lord specializes in fighting the fire for him to create an environment that will be safe enough for rescue.

The first moves to extinguish the flames were not easy. These flames were so strong that they would engulf the car fully if they were not eradicated. Lieutenant Stanhope worked a lot to take out the driver of the car. Meanwhile, Sub-Lieutenant Lord gathered dirt at the roadside. Then, he used it in order to put out the fire without an explosion.
The officers managed to pull the driver out of the wreckage after some dramatic moments, and emergency medical services arrived shortly afterward to assist them. The driver was moved to the ambulance for immediate emergency treatment. The result of that immediate intervention on their part gave the officers a life to save that very afternoon.
Praise for Heroism
The two officers waited at the scene until the authorities from the place arrived. They helped in the inquiry of the traffic accident. They ensured that all that information they had was given to the authorities present at the place. They then safely returned aboard their ship after completing their tasks.
