Fresh Missile Strikes Hit Kharkiv Overnight
In the early hours of June 2, a violent wave of missile and drone attacks struck the city of Kharkiv, causing panic and destruction. Among the areas hit were neighborhoods where people live, study, and go about their daily routines. A ballistic missile landed just a few dozen meters away from a school. This powerful explosion caused major damage to nearby roads, buildings, and vehicles. Broken windows, cracked walls, and scattered debris could be seen across the area.
The attack injured at least six people, including a young 7-year-old boy. Emergency crews worked through the night to assist the injured and check on others who were frightened by the blast. In another part of the city, another missile landed near a group of high-rise apartment buildings. This explosion also caused damage to building facades and shattered glass, leaving the area covered in wreckage.
It was also reported that several homes, a local business, and many cars were damaged during the attack. Thick smoke filled the sky, and people were seen rushing to shelters. Loud sirens were heard across the city before the strikes. These warning systems gave residents only a short time to find safety before the explosions shook the ground.
The airstrikes were carried out using a combination of drones and ballistic missiles. Drone strikes hit the Kholodnohirskyi district, while missiles were aimed at the Kyivskyi district. The damage was widespread, and many residents woke up to destroyed streets and ruined property.
Growing Use of Drones and Missiles
These attacks are part of a growing wave of strikes that have been hitting Ukraine in recent days. The number of drones and missiles used by Russian forces has increased sharply. Just one night before this latest attack, nearly 500 drones were launched in one of the biggest single-night drone barrages since the beginning of the war. These drones targeted many different parts of Ukraine and caused more destruction and stress for civilians.
The use of sea-based weapons has also become more frequent. Kalibr cruise missiles, launched from ships, are now part of the arsenal used in these strikes. These weapons can travel long distances and cause powerful explosions upon impact.
In addition to missiles, glide bombs and attack drones have been frequently used. These weapons are guided and can be aimed precisely at selected targets. This makes areas like schools, homes, and residential neighborhoods especially vulnerable.
Each week, the number of drones used per attack seems to rise. This growing number makes it harder for Ukraine’s air defenses to stop every threat. While many drones and missiles are intercepted, some still make it through, causing damage and injuries.
The repeated use of such weapons is creating a constant threat to people living in cities like Kharkiv. Residents are left to deal with the fear of new attacks at any time, especially during the night. It has become difficult for families to sleep soundly, knowing that loud blasts can occur while they are resting in their homes.
Kharkiv Faces Constant Attacks
Kharkiv is one of Ukraine’s largest cities and has been under attack many times since the war began in 2022. It is located close to the border, which puts it at higher risk. From the beginning of the invasion, missiles, bombs, and drones have targeted this city again and again.
Many of these attacks hit areas in Kharkiv where people live in apartment blocks, go to school, or work in small businesses. Each new strike adds to the damage already done, and rebuilding becomes harder. Families who once lived in peaceful neighborhoods of Kharkiv are now constantly watching the sky and listening for air raid sirens.
The latest strike near the school is especially worrying for parents and children. Although the missile did not directly hit the school, it landed close enough to cause damage to the surrounding area. Thankfully, it happened during the night when children were not at the school.
The damaged road near the school and the shattered windows in nearby buildings show how dangerous these weapons are, even when they don’t hit a target directly. It is considered very lucky that more people were not injured or killed in this attack.
The city of Kharkiv continues to suffer from repeated attacks that disrupt daily life. Electricity and water services can be affected. Public transportation may stop working after blasts. People often have to clean up rubble and broken glass.
Each new strike reminds the residents that the war is far from over. For many, it means another night spent in shelters or basements, waiting for the danger to pass. Even those who escape injury must live with fear and uncertainty every day.
As Kharkiv wakes up from another night of destruction, the people continue to show strength and resilience. But the damage to homes, streets, schools, and lives adds up with each passing week.
